[IPSM] Fwd: URGENT MESSAGE to supporters of the 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy

Hi folks,

Since Jaggi has responded via the list, I'd like to make a brief follow up.

Regarding the accusation that the following claims are "slanderous" (though
no individual are named in the letter):

- "it's okay for staff to take a paycheck without fulfilling the basic
requirements of their jobs"
- "some staff have taken advantage of these resources, in what is tantamount
to theft of student and activist resources"
- "there are some whose vision of the center is as a place for a few to
derive social and economic benefits."
- there are also allegations of "misappropriation of funds" and "abuse of
power"

I'd like to say as someone who endorsed the letter, that from everything
I've been able to ascertain, a) those claims are accurate beyond a
reasonable doubt, and b) I would imagine that everyone who endorses the
letter has made their own decision about the accuracy of the claims, and
acted accordingly. These major concerns have been brought up for months, and
the response from board members from what I know has been to block
discussion of these matters, delay it, and finally to threaten the job
security of those people who have brought these issues up, and to call the
addressing of these issues "harassment," while threatening to take action in
that vein as well. Again from what I know, denial that these issues exist
has not been among the responses to said attempts. It should be made clear,
though I think it is, that the signatories of the letter have written the
letter as a last resort, after having exhausted all internal means of
getting action taken on these issues.

As for it being an inappropriate use of this list:

The 2110 Centre has had a great deal of involvement, especially recently, in
Indigenous solidarity work in Montreal. As such, a public message concerning
a major crisis at the 2110 Centre, and which makes specific claims to
explain the depth of the crisis the Centre is now in, seems to me entirely
appropriate, as the future direction of the 2110 Centre will have a major
impact on the resources available to those doing Indigenous solidarity work
in Montreal in the future.
