FORT ST. JOHN - Two people have been taken to hospital after a sour gas
leak from a pipeline in northeastern B.C.

Spectra Energy, the company that owns the line near Fort St. John, has
confirmed the pipeline was involved in an "incident" Friday morning at
Mile 111 of the Alaska Highway.

"There have also been reports of a fire and explosion, those have not
been confirmed at this time," said a release from the Town of Fort St.
John, 660 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.

As of Friday afternoon it was believed gas might still be leaking from
the ruptured pipeline. Hydrogen sulphide gas, also known as sour gas, is
toxic.

The RCMP and the Ministry of Transport have closed the highway at Mile 111.
