AUDIO FROM CHIAPAS MEXICO

The Zapatista uprising began 15 years ago under the banner of democracy,
justice, and liberty. Over the course of those 15 years, indigenous and
peasant communities have upheld their struggle despite the government’s
counterinsurgency agenda. In recent months, counterinsurgency tactics have
intensified. Below are three radio pieces, two in English and one in
Spanish, on the current situation in Chiapas. Several members of
organizations in San Cristobal de las Casas, who accompany the resistance
process of the Zapatista communities were interviewed. Please distribute
and broadcast widely. The Zapatistas have called for the dissemination of
information as one means of standing in solidarity.
