This coming July 14, 2008, Mohawk grandmother and activist Katenies has
again been ordered to appear before a judge in the Superior Court of
Cornwall, Ontario. And again, Katenies will refuse to recognize the
authority of the courts, and demand that Canadian officials prove they have
jurisdiction over her as an Indigenous woman.

One month ago, on June 14, 2008, Katenies -- accompanied by Kahentinetha of
the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory – was targeted for arrest by Canadian Border
Services Agency (CBSA) guards on an outstanding warrant for allegedly
"running the border" in 2003, and offenses resulting from her refusal to
appear in court and validate the colonial justice system.

Katenies has maintained since 2003 that border officials and the Canadian
colonial courts have no jurisdiction over Kanion'ke:haka people or land. In
January 2007, Katenies served court officials with a Motion to Dismiss,
demanding that they establish jurisdiction, if any, over Mohawks and their
ability to travel freely between "Canada" and the "United States".

During the CBSA attack, Katenies and Kahentinetha – who are both writers and
contributors to Mohawk Nation News (MNN) – were treated brutally by border
guards. Both were handcuffed and tackled to the ground. Katenies was jailed
for three days. Kahentinetha suffered a heart attack and had to be
hospitalized for several days.

As mainly non-native groups and collectives based in settler communities on
or near Mohawk lands, we are publicly standing in support of Katenies, and
demand all charges against her by the colonial courts be dropped. We also
condemn the brutal attacks by the CBSA on both Katenies and Kahentinetha on
June 14, 2008 and declare our solidarity with Indigenous struggles for land,
freedom and self-determination.

Le 14 juillet prochain, Katenies, grand-mère et militante Mohawk,
comparaîtra à nouveau devant un juge de la Cour supérieure de Cornwall en
Ontario. Et de nouveau, Katenies refusera de reconnaître l'autorité du
tribunal et demandera aux autorités canadiennes de prouver qu'elle est sous
leur juridiction, en tant que femme autochtone.

Le 14 juin 2008, Katenies (accompagnée de Kahentinetha du territoire Mohawk
de Kahnawake) a été arrêtée par des officiers de l'Agence des services
frontaliers du Canada (ASFC), en vertu d'un mandat émis pour avoir
prétendument franchi la frontière illégalement en 2003 et pour avoir refusé
par la suite de comparaître en cour et reconnaître le système judiciaire
colonial.

Katenies maintient depuis 2003 que les frontières officielles et la cour
coloniale du Canada n'ont aucun droit sur les gens de Kanion'he:haka ou sur
leur terre. En janvier 2007, Katenies a rendu à la Cour une motion de
déboutement, demandant que les autorités prouvent leur juridiction sur les
Mohawks et leur abilité de voyager librement entre le "Canada" et les
"États-Unis".

Lors de l'assaut de l'ASFC le 14 juin dernier, Katenies et Kahentinetha -
qui contribuent toutes deux au bulletin de nouvelles Mohawk Nation News -
ont été traitées très brutalement par les douaniers. Les deux femmes ont été
menottées et jetées au sol. Katenies a été emprisonnée pendant trois jours.
Kahentinetha a subi une crise cardiaque et a du être hospitalisée pendant
plusieurs jours par la suite.

En tant que groupes et collectifs principalement non-autochtones et basés
dans des villes coloniales situées sur ou près des territoires Mohawk, nous
affirmons publiquement notre soutien à la cause de Katenies et exigeons que
toutes les accusations portées contre elles soient retirées. Nous condamnons
également l'attaque brutale subi par Katenies et Kahentinetha aux mains de
l'ASFC le 14 juin 2008 et réitérons notre solidarité avec les luttes
autochtones pour la terre, la liberté et l'autodétermination.
