They are coming
 they are almost here
a few hundred Native Americans and
their supporters who for five months have been walking and running from SF
to convene in D.C. on July 1, 2008
Why brave the cold? Why endure the
heat while picking up garbage along the way?

The Longest Walk was organized in 1978 to protect the sovereignty of
Indian Nations. Hundreds walked over 3,600 miles and ultimately
legislation was passed to protect Native American treaty rights. Thirty
years later, they walk again — this time 8,000 miles on two separate
routes to converge on D.C. on July 11, 2008 where they will deliver a
Manifesto addressing:
1) The protection of Sacred Sites.
2) Environmental issues like Global Warming, manifestation of an
Environmental Bill of Rights
3) The persecution of indigenous people due to the artificially created
U.S. borders.
4) Health. Peace. Justice. Prisoners’ Rights.
5) Native American Graves Protection Repatriation Act-NAGPRA.
