One of the great warriors who has campaigned for the earth and her people
for many years has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has reportedly been
given weeks to live.

Harriet Nahanee of the Pacheedaht Nation had suffered from asthma for many
years but after being sentenced to 2 weeks in Surrey Pre-trial she caught
pneumonia. She was released after 9 days but now is in St. Paul's
hospital<http://www.providencehealthcare.org/about_hr_stpauls_main.html>in
Vancouver.

Friends and family, including ecowarrior Betty
Krawczyk<http://bettysearlyedition.blogspot.com/>,
turned out in large numbers to support her recovery taking time to share
their experiences with this rainbow warrior outside the BC Supreme Court on
Smithe Street.

Harriet has been responsible for making people aware of the legal status of
Canada's indigenous peoples and how documents such as the Royal Proclamation
of 1763 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Proclamation_of_1763> continue
to be used to protect their rights. The Royal Proclamation is considered by
both the courts and indigenous peoples of Canada and the U.S. to be the
document that is supposed to protect the indigenous peoples as part of the
deal to allow the Queen of England rights to use the land. (Of course,
people have such short memories these days. If the governments and courts
really conformed with its terms there would have never been mass genocide of
indigenous people of North America.-Ed.)

Unfortunately, Justice Brenda
Brown<http://www.justice.gc.ca/en/news/ja/2002/doc_30272.html>charged
Harriet with contempt of court because of Harriet's refusal to stay
out of the Eagleridge Bluffs area and Harriet's insistence to use the Royal
Proclamation to guarantee her right to enter the territory.

WHE hopes that Harriet will overcome her situation and continue to guide and
teach future rainbow warriors for the protection of our only planet.

It's quite sad that despite claims that both the federal and provincial
government are 'committed' to taking action on climate change yet they fail
to uphold existing international and domestic agreements designed to do just
that - like protecting sensitive habitat like the Eagleridge
Bluffs<http://www.eagleridgebluffs.ca/>
.

Something of note to all humans is that the Red-Legged Frog, which was known
to be living in the Eagleridge Bluffs area, has likely been wiped out
because of the development. It was stated by Hopi Elder Thomas
Banyacya<http://www.angelfire.com/on/GEAR2000/tbhopi.html>that when
the last Red-Legged
Frog <http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/wld/frogwatch/whoswho/factshts/redleg.htm> is
killed that humanity will also cease to exist.

Another casualty of this is of course Justice Brown who will have to suffer
the karmic repercussions of contributing to the death of someone who was
actually working for the future of Justice Brown and her children.
