-> AFGHAN REFUGEES REFUSE FORCIBLE REMOVAL FROM NORWAY:
This past May and June, 45 Afghan refugees marched 650km from Trondheim to
Oslo, to oppose the forced removal of Afghan refugees from Norway. While
many refugees have been removed, others continue to struggle, both publicly
and underground. According to Zahir Athari, one of the marchers: "The
reality is that Afghan refugees are the scapegoat for a defeated war policy.
It was claimed by the USA and partners that we will win the war and put
every things in order in Afghanistan, now since after 5years not only
nothing came to the order but also they are losing completely. The Norwegian
government has to advertise Afghanistan as being safer and more democratic
than Norway, and start to deport afghan refugees back, as quick as possible,
to prove the claims and to justify its participation in that war on the
Norwegian public view." Sverre Petersen, a supporter of the refugees and an
anti-racism activist based in Oslo, provides context to the struggle against
deportations and Fortress Europe in Norway.

-> ALGONQUINS RESIST URANIUM MINING AND ASSERT INDIGENOUS SOVEREIGNTY:
In the past several months, members of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation and
Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation have resisted potential uranium mining on
their unceded territories. A corporation called "Frontenac Ventures" have
been testing for uranium for several years. Since June 28, the site of the
mine has been blocked by an encampment that continues to this day. Jenn
Tsun, a dissident member of the Ardoch Algonquin First Nation, provides
background to the resistance near Sharbot Lake, Ontario.

-> NO SECURITY WITHOUT JUSTICE! NO PROSPERITY WITHOUT DIGNITY: COMMUNITY
ASSEMBLY AGAINST THE SECURITY AND PROSPERITY PARTNERSHIP
This August 20-21, Stephen Harper, George Bush and Felipe Calderón will be
just 90 minutes from Montreal, in Montebello, Quebec, for a meeting of the
so-called Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). In brief, the SPP
combines the destructive neo-liberal policies of the North American Free
Trade Agreement (NAFTA) with the fear and paranoia of post 9-11 "Homeland
Security" policies. The SPP is firmly rooted within a colonial and
capitalist framework. As part of local popular education and mobilization
efforts against the SPP, No One Is Illegal-Montreal has organized a series
of community assemblies. From the first assembly on August 1st at UQAM in
downtown Montreal, we hear presentations from Farha Najah & Nazila Bettache
of No One Is Illegal-Montreal, providing background to the SPP, and from
Roderick Calderon of the SIKLAB migrant workers support group, about
policies such as the Live-in Caregiver Program, Filipino migration and
displacement, and the local context in immigrant working class neighborhoods
like Cote-des-neiges.

This month's show was produced by members of the No One Is Illegal
collective in Montreal, in conjunction with the CKUT Community News
Collective (thanks to Roberto Nieto and Stefan Christoff). No One Is
Illegal-Montreal is part of a worldwide movement of resistance, fighting for
justice and dignity, and the right to self-determination for migrants,
refugees and indigenous people. Our campaign is in public confrontation with
the Canadian state, denouncing and taking action to combat racial profiling,
police brutality, detentions and deportations, as well as opposing the
displacement and genocide of indigenous peoples on Turtle Island.
