The Burma Solidarity Collective are having a film screening and discussion
of a movie
about the construction of a controversial dam on the Salween River in Burma.

THURSDAY, Sept 21
7pm
in Shatner room 1203 (next to the SSMU office).

Voices from the Salween Valley (Burma, 2004, 20 min.) brings the voices of
isolated rural villagers to the attention of the world by telling the story
of the people living close to the area where the Burmese military
government, in cooperation with the Thai government, will build a dam on the
Salween River. The dam will have a major impact on the lives of the people
living in this area, as well as on the environment. Voices from the Salween
Valley is co-produced by Karen River Watch and Burma Issues - one of the
leading grassroots organizations using the power of video to document human
rights abuse in Burma.

Activists from around the world have chosen September 21st, 2006 as an
international day of action against the Salween River dams. Please join us!
