Dear all,
Please have a look at the petition attached, and consider sending it
along to the UN yourselves (e-mails provided below). I've been
following the blockade situation at Six Nations a bit, and the Canadian
and Ontario Governments, as well as some vigilantes are behaving quite
shamefully. The immediate cause of the problem is the government's
illegal 'OK'ing of a subdivision development on Six Nations land by
Henco Industries.
The leaders of the blockade have been very concerted in their efforts
to keep things peaceful in the face of police, military, and settler
imtimidation. Below are some excerpts from the petition and from the
e-mails I have received, including the latest from today at the end.
Please consider carefully.

"9. The best way to resolve this is for everyone to put their
documents on the table so that everyone can see who owns what.
Therefore, we request that the United Nations appoint as soon as
possible an independent international mediator who is agreeable to both
sides and has no conflict of interest to bring this to a legal
resolution. We do not want to wait another 200 years. Now is the
time."
"For over 200 years Canada has tried to impose its institutions on us.
We would like to remind Canada that it is never too late to polish the
Covenant Chain. We would like to invite Canada to take part in
renewing the spirit of the Two Row Wampum, which has since been
affirmed in international law. We would like the settler population to
experience the power of our Great Law, the solemn relations that were
established and to enter the kind of talks that will make consensus
possible, the kind that were used in the beginning when they first
arrived."
"10. Canada and the province of Ontario have continued to issue permits
for the use of our land even though they know they do not have legal
title. As a result, a private company called Henco Industries began
building a subdivision on the "Haldimand Tract" for sale to
non-Indigenous people who may not have been aware that there was no
legal root to the title they were given.
11. On February 28th, 2006, the Rotino'shon:ni decided to stop this new
encroachment on our land by blocking the entrance to the housing
project. Most Canadians do not know anything about our history. We
have never surrendered our sovereignty or given Canada jurisdiction
over us or our land.
12. On March 17, 2006, Henco Industries obtained an ex parte order from
an Ontario court to evict us from our land. Our people have been
protesting these thefts of our land for over 200 years. Our complaints
were well-known. Yet, Henco was never required to prove the legality
of its title. Ontario was never required to prove its capacity to
issue title. No attempt had been made to speak with us.
13. On April 20th 2006, the people protecting our land, including
grandmothers and small children, were attacked by a heavily armed force
of the Ontario Provincial Police. None of our people were armed. Many
were severely beaten up and assaulted with batons, pepper spray and
taser guns. 16 were arrested. However, many reinforcements arrived
and the police retreated. We are still occupying our land."
"The [April 20] police effort ultimately backfired, capturing national
media attention."

...so, we wouldn't have heard about it if the illegal police raid had
been successful?
"We need reports on troop movements. If anyone can let us know where
the riot police, OPP, RCMP and the army are stationing themselves.
What directions their movements are, times, numbers, any unusual
activity, choppers, if there are any tanks or troop carriers on the
move, equipment. Where are they setting up. Keep your eye out where
the military is getting ready. We need to know for our protection.
Based on past experience, we believe the riots were caused by
instigators. We've seen it happen many times before. These people
appear. They get people fighting. They throw things at the cops. We
get shot at. We expect the armed forces work things so that the
rioters and our non-native supporters disappear leaving us under siege.
This happened at Oka and in many other places.
So far everything has followed the pattern we've seen before."

PREPARE FOR MILITARY OPPRESSION: OKA BLUEPRINT BROUGHT OUT AGAIN
Brothers, Sisters, Friends and Allies,
We need information about the moves being made against us, solidarity,
witnesses to stand with us, alternative communication systems, cameras,
food, medicine, runners, people to apply pressure on the Prime
Minister, Parliament, Premier of Ontario, Governor General, etc.
Addresses and phone numbers are further down this email, contact with
and information to media to get the word out, supporters outside of
Canada to put pressure on governments, United Nations, protests. and
whatever you can think of to help us prevent bloodshed, imprisonment,
persecution.
As happened at Oka some of our communication has been disrupted. We
need alternative communications systems to ensure safety if someone
gets hurt.
We have learned 1000 OPP have been brought in nearby and we received
the following email about the Canadian Army (we need verification, if
anyone can provide this):

"I wanted to pass on information I heard from an employee who works at
the Hamilton Airport. Apparently at 9:30am tomorrow the military will
arrive there and begin using the airport as a staging area".
in solidarity,
Thanks, C. What other info do you have? Anything at all. Whatever.

*Can anyone verify this information. If so, please inform us asap so
we may prepared ourselves for an all-out assault. We remain unarmed."
"7:30 FRIDAY APRIL 21, 2006
EXTREME HIGH ALERT! POLICE MOVE IN FOR THE SLAUGHTER
Twenty RCMP vans arrived loaded with Mounties and weapons arrived.
Ambulances nearby. Need people right now! Phone working sporadically.
Need alternative communications. Need people to stand with us with
cameras, eyes and ears. Contact everybody you can to get the word out.
Need some medical personnel to help in case of injury. OPP and it is
believed the Canadian Army are coming in too at Hamilton airport at
9:30 am."
"9:10 am
Need more people. The Coalition in Support of Indigenous Sovereignty
stated that the presence of 1000 OPP was confirmed by CHCH TV news this
morning. RCMP are using the Hamilton Airport as a staging ground.
Behind Canadian Tires on Kinross St. Caledonia, there were 18 11
passenger vans, great big ones. They are full OPP officers. One seen
with gun on passenger side. There were some standing behind the vans.
Couldnt tell what they were doing."
TODAY'S NEWS
BREAD AND CHEESE FIGHT VICTORIA DAY AT SIX NATIONS - WHO WAS BEING
SUCKER PUNCHED? ONTARIO DOES NOT WANT TO RECOGNIZE SIX NATIONS OR ANY
ABORIGINAL TITLE
MNN. May 23, 2006. At 6:00 am May 22nd, Bread and Cheese Day, the
Six Nations people removed the barricade on Argyle Street in Caledonia
as a gesture of goodwill. What ensued is being called, the Bread and
Cheese Fight. It was the 83rd day of the reclamation of Six Nations
land and the stopping of construction of a housing project of Henco
Developers. Talks aimed at resolving the situation were scheduled to
continue. Lets not be fooled. What followed was part of somebodys
plan. Its clear that professional instigators played a role in the
rioting. David Petersons tactics created fuel for the flames.
The rioters were to arrive with about a dozen instigators and
outsiders. Several savvy observers counted and this is what they saw.
Our sources have consulted with genuine Caledonians and confirmed
that the most active rioters were people they had not seen before. The
rioters were supposed to find the native barricade still up. We think
they are pro' instigators because weve seen the same kind of faces
before. In particular the main rabble rouser looked like a 50 year old
cop. He was surrounded by guys made to look like skin heads [as if
skin heads are still around. As if they lived in a nice rural
community like Caledonia]. A short guy with sun glasses who was
punching a cop was recognized by a native viewer. She said he is the
spitting image of a guy high up in the KKK. Weve also seen the m.o.
before. The police routinely function to get the rabble to do their
dirty work.
Then they were to make a ruckus and start attacks on the Six Nations
people. The uniformed OPP were to just stand there and watch,
pretending to be neutral. Then it would turn into a melee. Then the
crowd was supposed to turn on the cops for not letting them get at the
Indians. A few cops would get hurt. Then there would be an excuse to
bring in the riot police conveniently stationed nearby. Many would be
arrested, native and non-native. The non-native would be released and
we would never know who they were. The natives would be charged. All
this weve witnessed before.
The planners got it wrong this time. The Six Nations did open the
road. When the non-native rioters arrived, they found the street open.
This threw their plans out the window. There was no obstacle to
overcome. So they set up their own barricade so they could find a
target. When a car carrying native people came along, they attacked
it. When people from the site came to help, they attacked them. What
ensued was not a confrontation between the native and non-native
people. It was a planned attack on the native people. When the native
people started defending themselves, the corporate media got the photos
they wanted. Images that make the natives look like the aggressors are
plastered all over the media today. They also have Caledonians saying
things like, Bring in the army, This is terrorism and Dissolve
both sides and everybody should go home. Even the power outage was
part of the scheme to create what was to look like chaos between native
and non-native. Are there any real journalists left in corporate media
in Canada who will report the truth?
During the riots David Peterson, the so-called negotiator, arrived on
the scene. The native people were polite. He went over to the
non-native rioters and got pushed around. It was all a show. Then
Peterson said, The government wants the Caledonian and the Six Nations
people to be in solidarity. He said he was against all the people who
used force to make everything generate into chaos. Who used force? It
was clearly the non-native side. His most telling remark was, The
talks may not go on [he hopes]. This is what the whole display was
all about - to stop the talks and to distract attention from the
validity of the Six Nations claim.
If you were to dig deep to find the underlying interests that are
served by stopping the talks, you would hit the hard rock of corporate
greed. What is happening in Six Nations right now is not just about a
piece of land on the Grand River. Its about all native rights to land
and resources in Canada. It will set the tone for the treatment of
Indigenous rights in every other part of the country. Big business
absolutely does not want Canada to start respecting Indigenous rights.
They had a real problem a few years ago when Justice Thomas Bergers
Report on the McKenzie Valley Pipeline raised public awareness of the
relationship between environmental issues and Indigenous rights. The
Berger Report is almost forgotten. The McKenzie Valley pipeline is on
the negotiating table again. Corporate interests do not want to suffer
another Berger type setback caused by a bunch of do-gooder Canadians
who think they want to live in a clean and healthy world.
Affirmation of the Six Nations right to the Grand River land could mean
the end of their reign of environmental destruction and dissolution of
their illegal colonial system. What happened at Six Nations yesterday
is a small distraction. We dont know who Petersons clients are when
hes not at Six Nations. We do know that he is aware of the corporate
interests served by the denial of Indigenous rights. We also know that
hes been double dealing telling Caledonians that Ontario has no
intention of returning land to the Six Nations while assuring Six
Nations people that Ontario would formally recognize our title.
Once we realized this, we knew that Peterson did not really want the
talks to go on even though he sounds conciliatory in public, especially
when he talks to the media. He put on a different face during the
meetings with the Six Nations. He sat there with a surly expression
the whole time. This is a man who is not happy when things do not go
his way.
Said a Mohawk about whats going on, You cant steal land. You cant
put it into your pocket and walk away with it. You can only illegally
occupy it.
Another commented, They lost the argument about the land. When a baby
doesnt get its way, they start busting everything. Thats what they
did yesterday. The media has not been telling the public or the people
of Caledonia the truth. There is no real difference between the
people of Caledonia and the people of Six Nations. All agree they want
to live peacefully. Lets hope people dont get distracted from this
goal by outside instigators who dont care spit about the people of
Caledonia or Indigenous people. The real Caledonians and the Six
Nations people do not want to hurt anybody. The Caledonians threw
bricks of cheese at the Six Nations who threw it back at them. Maybe
this can be reenacted every year after this.
Could the Bread and Cheese Fight have been avoided? Not when theres
so much corporate greed at stake.
