Urgent! Arrests at Earth Justice Gathering after Highway Blockade
The highway blockade came down on Thursday night at 10:00pm as was agreed.
The police allowed everyone to leave and not be arrested. The arrests
began the next day, Friday July 14th.
To give you an update:
the 6 people that were arrested today are released. Nechaa is at Slant
Lake and their conditions were to get out of our territory within 24
hours. They are leaving tomorrow am after they rest and recuperate. I
think the story was made up by someone of the miscarriage to lure us to
the opp station. Still trying to confirm the story of the miscarriage. The
charges they got was criminal mischief.
Currently, as of 10 pm. 11 more non native protester were arrested as they
headed back to their communities on highway 671 to Kenora. The cops are
all over the place going into Kenora-A Police State. Intimidation, and
harrassment, scare tactics.
The people at slant lake number around 60 people. Some more people were
trying to head out tonight to head home, but instead they decided to have
a meeting.
We believe the police are just after certain protestors but are arresting
any non native protestors trying to screen out the organizers and the ones
that did the direct action stuff; the tripod lady, the log truck lady, and
the cement barrel lady. We shall see.
We have lit the sacred fire and are burning tobacco. A member of the
Grassy Narrows community is doing a sweatlodge as we speak.
We are non violent, no weapons and we are here to protect the earth and
our people.
A Grassy Narrows resident said there were at least 30 opp cars on the
entrance to Grassy hwy 1 and 671 and another said there were 11 opp cars
all the way into Grassy Narrows parked on the side.
