colour and Indigenous youth

If you want to...
- gain skills to help you stand up for your rights, your people and what 
you believe in
- learn and talk about racism, discrimination and how we change the world
- make T-shirts and art for the world to see
- EARN A $100 HONORARIUM
then you should apply to be part of our summer program!

Snap! is a FREE summer program for youth of colour and Indigenous youth 
to learn skills, share ideas and gain experiences that will help us to 
change the world we live in - to end racism and all forms of 
discrimination and oppression.
We are 'moving to our own beats' because this is a program for youth , 
by youth, and we believe that we know best what affects us, and how we 
as youth can - and do – affect change

We are currently looking for youth of colour and Indigenous youth in 
Montreal to attend our summer program, which takes place from July 28th 
to August 19th, with a graduation party at the end of August.  Some 
stuff we'll be covering include: police and prisons, youth of 
colour/Indigenous youth activism, event organizing, public speaking, and 
so much more...  As a participant, you'll get to design your own T-shirt 
images based on your experiences at Snap!, which we’ll print on to 
T-shirts for you to take home!

The program is FREE and you’ll receive a $100 honorarium for your 
participation. Metro tickets, childcare and ASL/LSQ interpretation are 
available upon request.  Workshops are wheelchair accessible.

DEADLINE to apply is 6pm, July 21st, 2006.

Snap! Moving to Our Own Beats is a project of Colours of Resistance 
Montreal – a QPIRG Concordia working group, and is co-presented by CKUT 
Radio 90.3.  We have also received the support of the 2110 Centre for 
Gender Advocacy and QPIRG McGill, and mutualaid.org (our webhost).

As a grassroots project, we rely on the support of members of the 
Montreal community that share our mandate of supporting youth of colour 
and Indigenous youth empowerment.  Check out our website at

If you think this is an exciting project, please consider making a small 
donation.  No amount is too big or too small!

Financial and in-kind donations of over $50 will entitle you to a Snap! 
T-shirt or poster, created by the participants, at the end of the summer 
upon completion of the program. (Please make sure to let us know your 
contact info so that we can send you a poster or T-shirt as soon as they 
are ready.)

We are also looking for volunteers who can help us with this exciting 
project before, during and/or after the program. If you are able to 
donate a few hours, we would greatly appreciate it!

We are looking for volunteers to help with
- publicity and outreach (immediately!)
- organizing events
- coordinating our graduation party/vernissage/fundraiser
- printing T-shirts and posters
- anything and everything
