VIGIL AGAINST CRIMINALIZATION OF MAPUCHE RESISTANCE

On January 25th, Chilean tribunals will announce their verdict against Lonko
José Cariqueo Saravia of the Mapuche Community of José Guinon of the
Ercilla Commune in Chilli.
According to the anti-terrorist bill 18.314, he is accused of  "terrorist
arson". This legislation was inherited from the fascist Pinochet regime
but the current, so –called socialist government of Chilli doesn't hesitate
to use it in its criminalization of the Mapuche resistance to the
multinational assault of their lands by many corporations including some
Canadian,
with complicity of the neo-liberal governments of Chilli and Argentina.
Moreover, phony trials cogitated by levers of the Chilean government,
as well as multinational interests, were full of inconsistencies. In an
outburst of the abuse of power, they even paid off anonymous witnesses
to condemn Mapuche men and women.
Other Mapuche political prisoners with similar charges, received
sentences going as far as 10 years plus a day of imprisonment, as well as
fines
amounting to 423 millions of Chilean pesos (approx. 1 Million CD) to be
paid in damages to the multinational deforestation company Minico S.A., a
prosecuting party along with the Public Ministry and Chilean Police
Force.

Lonko José Millacheo Lican and José Huenchunao Marinan, a spokes person
for the CAM (Coordinadora Arauco Malleco), are in the same situation. They
have chosen clandestinely over the Chilean Injustice System which will be
preserved by the recent presidential election of Madame Bachelet of the
same Socialist Party that her predecessor Ricardo Lagos.
In face of the latest assault of the Chilean government against the
Mapuche, the Collective for the Autonomy of the Mapuche People (CAPMA),
calls
different organizations, collectives, groups and individuals to join
them for a two-day vigil in front of the Chilean Consulate in Montreal.
Denounce this military and political repression, call for liberation of all
Mapuche political prisoners and show solidarity with the resistance of the
Mapuche People!
