Loren Carle (lcarle at po-box.mcgill.ca) has forwarded you a
message from SojoMail, which is on the web at:

Hi friends,

I thought you might be interested in this message from
Sojourners. In particular, the linked commentary from the
Wasington Post is very interesting and encouraging. The
following quotation is from that article, and is particularly
revealing.

"The United Nations spends less running 17 peace operations
around the world for an entire year [with a 2/3 success rate]
than the United States spends in Iraq in a single month."

It must also be noted that the few (though admittedly
horrendous) failures of the UN security council have been
largely due to a lack of resources and a clear mandate on
genocide, mostly because of the resistance and refusal to pay
dues of the US government. The US govt. also consistently
opposes or weakens UN resulotions on genocide, because it would
be forced to open its own ongoing history of continental
genocide and "lebensraumpolitik" to tough and sorely needed
international scruitiny. (cf Ward Churcill, Since Predator Came,
Aegis Press, 1995)

I hope you've all had an excellent holiday.

Happy new year!
peace and love
Loren
