Haiti, the Coup d'Etat, and the Media:

On February 29th, 2004, Haiti's democratically elected president
Jean-Bertrand Aristide was removed from power and kidnapped from the
country in a coup d'etat sponsored by the US, France, and Canada. Now, two
years later, Haiti continues to find itself in a state of turmoil with a
UN occupation, thousands of political prisoners, and daily killings in the
nation's poorest areas.

Canada's mainstream media has reacted to this coup with astounding
misinformation. A glut of reports fill our airwaves and newspapers which
reflect the racist politics of Canada's foreign policy that Haitians need
to be governed. Conveniently absent from most analysis is Canada's
shameful role in orchestrating and participating in the coup, and now
supporting the elections which most Haitians never wanted. We can no
longer remain in the dark about Haiti. It's time to cover, and UNcover the
coup.

This event is a co-presentation of the CKUT (90.3FM) Community News
Collective, and Haiti Action Montreal.
