The NFCM is currently looking to fill two positions:

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY #1
EVENTS ASSISTANT
The Native Friendship Centre of Montreal (NFCM) is an active community
organization. Throughout the year we provide many events, particularly
during the summer period. For example the NFCM celebrates Nunavut Day and
National Aboriginal Day. Annually the NFCM organizes a Cultural Festival or
Pow Wow in September. The NFCM requires the assistance in the organization
and realization of these many events.
We are hereby requesting an Events Assistant for a period of sixteen (16)
weeks starting as soon as possible. This individual will assist the NFCM in
accomplishing the following tasks:
- Provides direction to and supervises event volunteers, including
selecting, monitoring, and training, scheduling and determining work loads;
- Assists in the planning, evaluation and coordination of special events,
including scheduling facilities, ensuring facilities are set up, etc.
- Monitors the operations of programs and events while taking place
- Formulates and organizes program plans and schedules;
- Acts as liaison and representative to promote NFCM events
- Creates event flyers, brochures, and newsletters, including determining
content, layout, materials and distribution methods; prepares activity and
operating reports.
- Prepares contracts and direction for artists, drummers, dancers, and
craftspeople
- Soliciting donations and sponsorships
- Preparing funding proposals to support the event
- Contacting the media and preparing advertisements
- Making all necessary technical arrangements
Position requirements:
- Bilingualism
- Must be Aboriginal
- Writing skills
- Must not be over 30 years old
- Computer literate
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- University level

POSITION: Communications Assistant
PROJECT: YOUNG CANADA WORKS FOR ABORIGINAL URBAN YOUTH 2005-2006
LENGTH: 16 WEEKS
Young Canada Works (YCW) offers up to 2, 300 grants in the form of wage
subsidies. These grants are dedicated to offering summer jobs and
internships to Canadian students and graduates, allowing them to gain
valuable experience while putting their skills to the test.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Communications Assistant is responsible to promote the NFCMs programs
and services, and the Aboriginal community of Montreal, through contacts
with various governmental and city officials, organizations and the general
public.
DESCRIPTION
- Provides technical support in writing, gathering data, determining layout,
and coordinates the production of publications including newsletters, public
service announcements, and fliers
- Prepares newsletters and brochures for promotional mailings. Obtains
mailing lists from appropriate sources, schedules mailing of informational
materials and analyzes effectiveness of mailings.
- Edits, takes photos and determines layout of promotional and informational
materials including brochures, flyers, newsletters, presentations, press
releases and feature articles.
- Assist in the preparation of a master calendar/schedule of events or
classes for use in advertising and updates and inputs changes to information
and notifies staff of corrections.
- Assists in the development and design of advertisement, writes promotional
copy and designs printed pieces for a variety of publications.
- Assists in the implementation of ongoing mass marketing of programs for
the College facilities and/or various programs in conformity with
organizational goals and objectives.
- Making contacts and meeting with various government and city officials;
- Compiling an up to date mailing list and make it accessible to the staff
of the NFCM
- Networking with various Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organizations;
- Attending pertinent public events and meetings;
- Maintaining a database on individuals, agencies and organizations
contacted;
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/HOURS
The Communications Assistant will work a 37.5-hour week, but the shift may
vary depending on the programming requirements and attendance at events,
meetings, training and workshops. Some evening and weekend work may be
required when needed.
This position is to be filled by a candidate up to the age of 30 who is
bilingual and possesses good communication skills.
SALARY: To commensurate with experience and education
