JOB POSTING: Temporary Replacement Position: May 23rd-July 21st

The Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIRG) at McGill University is a
student-funded non-profit organization that conducts research, education,
and action on a variety of social justice and environmental issues at McGill
and in the Montreal community. We are looking for a dynamic, approachable,
and resourceful person committed to social and environmental justice to fill
a TEMPORARY 20 hours/week position.

Requirements:
*strong administration level experience at QPIRG McGill
* candidates should have a strong background, understanding and analysis of
anti-oppression issues
* candidates must demonstrate an ability to apply this analysis to systems
and structures in society as well as to individual and group dynamics
* solid experience in public event coordination
* solid knowledge and demonstrated experience with popular education
techniques
* self-motivated, creative, demonstrated organization skills, communication
skills and leadership
* strong computer knowledge including desktop publishing software;
experience with Macintosh computers an asset
* dedication to social justice and environmental issues
* excellent ability to write and speak English, working ability in French
would be an asset
* some familiarity with activist/political organizations on campus and/or in
the community

Duties:
* planning and coordinating QPIRG events
* assisting working groups with the coordination of their events
* assisting Montreal-based grassroots groups to coordinate social justice
events
* networking with and assisting Montreal-based grassroots groups to
coordinate 'co-sponsored' events/initiatives with QPIRG-McGill
* publicity: updating website, coordinating media outreach and contact
* designing and distributing publicity materials (ads, pamphlets and
posters) for QPIRG and various events and functions
* assisting volunteers in office (computers, photocopier, fax, phones,
physical space)
* acting as the liaison with the Radical Frosh Coordinator and Summer
stipend recipients
* regularly checking and responding to emails/phone messages
* maintaining regular office hours in coordination with other staff
* answering and redirecting telephones, e-mail, faxes, and other
correspondence
* helping maintain office cleanliness
* maintaining or arranging maintenance of office equipment (photocopier,
computers, fax, and phones)
* attending Board meetings and meetings of relevant committees and working
groups
* writing cheques and assuring that they are signed
* taking monthly photocopier readings, clearing the counter, billing CKUT
for photocopier charges, and reporting copy counts to the accounting office
via e-mail
* making bank deposits
* Liase with Finance Committee

This position is to cover two non-overlapping absences of permanent staff.
20 hours/week, $15.00/hour; temporary position
