  QPIRG-McGill is presently looking for a coordinator for our annual
Radical Frosh Summer Program...

Radical Frosh is a 3-day alternative orientation program to McGill
and Montreal, coordinated annually for the past eight years by the
Quebec Public Interest Research Group at McGill (QPIRG-McGill).
Radical Frosh provides approximately 125 new McGill students with
a unique and exciting opportunity to meet other students with similar
interests and explore a range of social justice issues and
organizations. Over the span of the program, students are introduced
to countless community and  activist organizations from McGill and
Montreal, exposed to a variety of pertinent issues via workshops, panel
discussions and "activist tours" of Montreal and McGill, and given the
opportunity to familiarize themselves with their surroundings in a
way that may
otherwise not be possible during their time at McGill University.


Responsibilities of the Radical Frosh 2006 Coordinator include:
-organizing the schedule for the 3-day Radical Frosh program taking
place in the last week of August 2006
-doing publicity and outreach for the program to Montreal groups  -
recruiting participants
-creating/updating Radical Frosh website
  -booking spaces and taking care of logistical details for different
aspects of the program
  -outreaching to community groups/businesses to fill up 'Frosh bags'
given to participants
  -coordinating tours with community groups
  -selecting the leaders for the program
  -recruiting volunteers to help coordinate the program
  -doing evaluations of the program and writing a final report of the
program once completed
  -fundraising for small programming costs of Radical Frosh
  -liaising with the Students' Society at McGill University to
coordinate frosh programming efforts
  -meeting regularly with members of the QPIRG staff/board/volunteers
for support

Requirements/Qualifications:
  -ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team
  -experience coordinating projects or events with student
groups/community organizations
  -well-organized and able to work in a dynamic workplace that can
often  be hectic and busy
  -interest in social justice organizing especially with youth
  -knowledge of Montreal community/activist groups
  -knowledge of McGill clubs, services and campus groups is an asset
  -bilingualism (French/English) is an asset; English will be the
primary language of the program
  -flexible working hours

DETAILS OF THE POSITION

DURATION: 4-month contract position starting May 15,2006 with an
honorarium stipend of $3000

DEADLINE: Monday May 8, 2006 at 1 pm! (sorry no late applications will
be accepted); interviews will be conducted during the week of May 8th

TRAINING: Training for the Coordinator will take place during the week
of May 15th
LOCATION: The Radical Frosh Coordinator will be working out of the
QPIRG-McGill offices at 3647 University (corner desPins) through the
duration of the summer.
