[IPSM] Prostitution of First Nations Women in Canada

I guess I will have to out myself for this one.

I am a non-Native, male prostitute but, nonetheless, I believe htat this
"researcher"'s view is totally biased. When she writs: "the prostitution
exchange in and of itself is intrinsically violent", I can't help but think
that she has never tried to do it herself. There is lots of economic and
sexuel exploitation going on on the street, which everyone will recognize,
but doien't she believe that sex workers deserve respect, non only from
clients, but also from judgemental white anglo-saxon protestant sexophobic
self-appointed "feminists" who denounce all that they would not personally
do.

I was at Stella's FORUM XXX this weekend in Montreal, who regrouped sex
workers and their allies from around the world, and we stood for the rights
for sex workers of all genders, ethnic groups, and will actively defend
them. "Liberating" consenting adults from sex work to "save" them is total
hypocrisy since the cause for many's employment in the sex industry is
poverty, and Victorian-era abolitionists have no solution for this.
Overthrowing capitalism may challenge this occupation, but until then, the
best defense for sex workers is empowerment about control over their bodies,
decriminalization so as to denounce abusive clients, and all other rapists,
be they operating within the sex industry or marriage (which is simply
legalized prostitution). Bad working conditions and clients' greed are the
cause for bodily harm done to female sex workers.

Please check www.chezstella.org for a really progressive stance on sex
worker rights. Stella is First-Nations positive, and has even translated its
prevention pamphlets in Inuktitut for Inuit women working in Montreal. it
has a drop-in center and street workers to reach out to all
female-identified sex workers around the Montreal area.
