An evening of presentations, poetic and musical roots vibrations in English & 
French. The event will focus on how various political and cultural movements 
can connect African diasporan communities across borders/languages/social 
barriers.


----> PRESENTATIONS from....

ASHANTI ALSTON - A former member of the Black Panther Party, former U.S. 
political prisoner, organizer with Anarchist People of Colour (APOC) and 
grandfather based in New York City. Ashanti will be addressing how anarchist 
theory & practice emerges from the Black cultural Diaspora. ALSO Ashanti will 
present his readings of jazz improvisation and improv as an organizing 
principle.

MAGALIE X - A Haitian Community Organizer based in Montreal, Magalie will be 
addressing the ongoing struggle of the Haitian people for freedom and 
democracy, focusing specifically on the role of the Canadian government in the 
February 2004 Coup d'Etat.

DAVID AUSTIN - A long-time Caribbean community organizer, David will be 
providing historical context to struggles for social justice in Montreal's 
black community. David has written widely on black history, popular culture and 
social change and is a Trustee of the Alfie Roberts Institute in Montreal.

KALMUNITY'S Word Sound SYSTEM:

A poetry-focused offshoot of Montreal's respected and extensive KalmUnity Vibe 
Collective. The Word Sound System features poets in live sonic conversation 
with musicians and DJ's. Its dubwise wisdom and roots riddims fuse the sounds 
of North America, Africa, and the Caribbean.
