PRESS CONFERENCE AND DEMONSTRATION

People Resist Destructive Mining!

(Toronto, Canada)  On March 9, 2005 in Toronto, the self-proclaimed
mining finance capital of the world, hundreds of the world's biggest
players in mineral and resource exploration are present, for the
Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada's Annual Convention and
Trade Show (PDAC Convention).  For the first time in recent memory,
resistance to their agenda has been organized.

This March 9 representatives from various community-based struggles will
converge to talk about the destructive effects Canadian mining
corporations, supported by the Canadian government, are having on
Indigenous lands here at home and around the world.

Public Press Conference:  Come hear about the destructive effects of
Canadian mining at home and abroad, from members of various NGOs and
community groups, including Rights Action, Alcan't in India, and Grassy
Narrows First Nation.  At the Church of the Holy Trinity, by the Eaton
Centre, 10 Trinity Square, March 9, 10:30 am - 11:30 am.

Picket and Speak out at the Closing of the PDAC Conference:  March from
the Holy Trinity Church, March 9 at 12 noon, or meet us at the
intersection of Front and John Streets at 12:30.

Continued resistance is urgently needed against greedy mining
corporations and corrupt governments who converge to repress and exploit
Indigenous people, workers, peasants, and the poor.  Communities and
people directly affected by Canadian mining need control of their
resources, economy, health, and environment - and we aim to show
solidarity for such struggles.
