Booshoo from the North,
We are many concerned aboriginal women from Ojibway Nation of Saugeen No. 258 &
Mishkeegogamang First Nation located near Savant Lake & Pickle Lake, Ontario.
We are in need of guidance, knowledge sharing and help...
Since August 24th, 2004, we have had meetings with the Ministry of Natural
Resources of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Bowater (www.bowater.ca). Ministry of
Mining Development will plan to tear our into our Caribou Forests and
Traditional Traplines. We oppose for Future Generations.
They plan to aerial spray our forests with the herbacide/pesticide 'Vision".
They have already clearcutted many roads into our forests and throughout our
traplines, without our knowledge or approval. Our Chief Edward Machimity
discourages our efforts for standing together for our land, waterways also our
future Generations. We do not agree with the ongoing activities of Bowater and
MNR & MNDM. They will plan to continue...no matter what we say...our ancestors
are buried throughout the lands and adjacent territories and waterways.
Our people are scared that our voices are not being taken seriously nor heard.
Numerous individual from these two First Nations will be joining together to
help each other with all obstacles with the of the sealing of the Northern
Forests. Our actions are as peaceful as the wind, air and all of Mother Earths'
love for our people, Wildlife and elements of life.
Approximitely 40-80 people including our youths and elders, will be travelling
to Ottawa for March 11th, 2005, they plan to stand and raise awareness to the
happenings in our traditional territories, lands and peoples. We have not
figured out how to accomodate and feed our people...I apoligize; any ideas,
suggestions & support would be greatly appreciated...I will confirm and
announce the date and time once i hear more, to further help our people. They
will be travelling by school bus from Mishkeegogamang & Ojibway Nation of
Saugeen, gas and food expenses are somewhat "hazy" and less than.
Please feel free to contact via email...therefore i will try my best to call
back via calling card ASAP...I'm currently on the road and speaking tour with
Grassy Narrows, it's powerful and informative. ~ Chi Meegwetch~
