While kanadians rally around the flag, and queers celebrate the equal
marriage bill, the kanadian colonial project hasnt skipped a beat. Day-in,
day-out, Indigenous peoples are coming under attack from racist police to
genocidal
government policies, such as Bill C-31, to the ongoing expropriation of
unceded territories. For many, its a daily struggle for dignity, self-
determination, and decolonization.

This is a call out for queers and allies from across Tiotiake (aka
Montreal) and beyond to come out and support the anti-colonial resistance
of Indigenous communities throughout Turtle Island (i.e. occupied north
amerika). Proceeds from the night will go towards the Kanehsatake Legal
Defense Fund in support of Kanehsatake community members who are facing
charges for resisting the imposition of a police state on their territory.
Members of the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement (IPSM) will have a
table set up with more info.

A note about kanada day...

Canada Day officially commemorates the July 1, 1867 passing of the British
North American Act (BNA) creating the Dominion of Canada. The BNA
stipulated that Canadian governments would have to adhere to British
legislation, including the 1763 Royal Proclamation. The Proclamation
specified that nation-to-nation treaties would be the only means by which
the Crown could obtain title to Indigenous-held territories, thus
protecting Native Sovereignty and enshrining Canada's fiduciary
obligations to
Indigenous Peoples.

Obviously, Canada has never honored their obligations, but instead created
the most elaborate, systematized, organized criminal organization this
country has ever known - the Department of Indian Affairs - to expropriate
Indigenous lands and resources through legislation passed in breach of the
laws we bound ourselves to July 1st, 1867.
