DID YOU KNOW?

* On February 29, 2004 Haiti's democratically elected president, Jean-Bertrand
Aristide, was overthrown by a US, French and Canadian orchestrated coup d'etat.

* Since February 29 Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the Institute
for Justice and Democracy in Haiti have documented hundreds of killings of poor
Lavalas (Aristide's party) supporters by paramilitary death squads and the
police.

* Along with President Aristide most of the country's elected mayors, council
members and senators were forced into hiding or exile.

* There are currently more than 700 political prisoners languishing in
overcrowded prison cells, including the Prime Minister, Interior Affairs
minister, 70 year old activist Annette Auguste (So-Anne), singer/activist Ti
Pay.

* Thousands of public sector workers have been fired for their perceived
political affiliation, without cause, with no compensation and owed back wages.
More than 2000 have lost their jobs at the state telecom company alone.

* Paul Martin's Liberal government helped overthrow Haiti's constitutional
order and has acted aggressively to legitimize the murderous regime of
installed Prime Minister Gerard Latortue.

* The Caribbean community, African Union and Venezuela still refuse to
recognize the installed regime.
