** __ What is Canada doing in Haiti? __ **
For those wondering what's missing from Canada's corporate
press, a new website from the Canada Haiti Action Network
provides an introductory overview.
-> http://www.outofhaiti.ca <-
Basic explanations, as well as links to in-depth coverage and
research, discuss the coup that deposed the elected Haitian
government, Canada's military occupation during the coup, the
RCMP's training of the police, the deteriorating human rights
situation, police massacres, political prisoners, the role of
the UN, the coming elections, the Canadian-supported post-coup
regime, and the mounting debt which will be paid back by the
Haitian people.
The site is part of a cross-Canada information campaign to
counter the corporate/government disinformation about Haiti,
including a tour by Yves Engler and Anthony Fenton, the
authors of the just-released *Canada in Haiti: Waging war on the
poor majority*, and screenings of films by Haiti-based independent
journalist Kevin Pina.
