Report from September 23rd Montreal action against Sun Peaks

On Thursday September 23rd, approximately 40 people gathered outside of
the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Montreal to demand that Fairmount
Hotels – owner of Delta Hotels and the Montreal Queen Elizabeth- put an
end to the illegal development and planned expansion of the Sun Peaks
resort on unceded Secwepemc territory. While many picketers chanted
(“Native rights, under attack, what do we do – stand up fight back!”) and
handed out leaflets by the front entrance of the hotel, a smaller group
went inside, where they found several corporations meeting in the Queen
Elizabeth conference space. One of the protesters disrupted a meeting of
Sun Life Insurance, handing out leaflets to dozens of the participants
before being escorted out of the room. Hotel security stopped the group
before they were able to disrupt the meeting of SNC Lavalin, a Canadian
based war-profiteer, which produces military ammunitions and components
for the colonial occupation of Iraq. Members of the Indigenous Peoples
Solidarity Movement also announced their September 30th action, Clog the
Lines of Capitalism, a mass call-in to tie up the phone lines of SkiCan.
SkiCan is a Sun Peaks travel booking agent with offices based in Montreal
and Toronto.
