Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz is a historian and professor in the Department of Ethnic
Studies and Women's Studies at California State University, Hayward. She is
the author of two memoirs, "Red Dirt: Growing Up Okie" and "Outlaw Woman: A
Memoir of the War Years, 1960-1975," as well as scholarly books and articles,
including "The Great Sioux Nation," "Roots of Resistance," and "Indians of the
Americas". Her newest book, "Miskitos, Contras, Sandinistas in Reagan's
Imperial War" will be published by South End Press, 2004.
Dr. Dunbar-Ortiz remains active in social justice movements, particularly in the
field of international human rights and is cofounder and director of the
Indigenous World Association.
