hi ipsm,
i did the phone in to skican action on sept 30, and i wanted to share my
experience with this group because i thought it was interesting.
anyways, i was on the phone with various skican reps for about 35 minutes.
first i was speaking to a general call-taker, trying to "book a
reservation". then at the end, i had him transfer me over to the manager.
it seems like many people called that day about sun peaks and their
colonial project, because he knew exactly what i was talking about.
the manager was an interesting man - your typical liberal capitalist. he
was very receptive of my concerns and heard me out. he admitted that what
sun peaks was doing could be wrong on different levels, but was also
trying to deny skican's complicity in it.
the discussion was also interesting because he was telling me that for
skican montreal, they get very few people wanting to book trips to sun
peaks. my argument to him was that since sun peaks represented so little
of their sales, why not drop them as a client if they disagree with their
business practices? he hesitated, and then admitted i had an interesting
point, but said there was "nothing he could do".
it may be that i'm being naive, but given the manager's attitude, i think
it's a tangible goal to persuade skican montreal to drop sun peaks. what
do people think? did others have similar experiences?
finally, i really commend ipsm for putting the call out for that and all
the work you're doing to support the secwepemc.
in solidarity,
aaron lakoff
