Standing in Solidarity with
the Palestinian Resistance:
Freedom Summer 2004
===========================
--> Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 @ 7pm <--
Co-op La Maison Verte
5785 Sherbrooke St. W.,
N.D.G. (metro Vendome, 105 bus to Wilson.)
Speakers: Eileen Young and Helga Mankovitz
and a special video presentation
Join us for an evening of presentations from two peace activist recently
returned from Palestine. Eileen and Helga both traveled to Palestine this
summer and participated in Freedom Summer 2004, organized by the
International Solidarity Movement. The ISM is a Palestinian-led movement
of Palestinian and International activists who use non-violent methods to
challenge the Israeli occupation, and raise awareness of the day-to-day
conditions in Palestine. In addition to their reports about conditions
there and the current struggle against the building of the Apartheid Wall,
there will be a video presentation about ISM work in the West Bank and
Gaza.
Helga Mankovitz is a Jewish grandmother with a life-long interest in
social justice. This summer she completed her second visit to Palestine as
a volunteer with the ISM. During her 7 week stay in Palestine, she
traveled throughout the West Bank and to a Palestinian community within
1948 Palestine, learning a great deal about the extent of the apartheid
practices of the Israeli state throughout Palestine.
Eileen Young is a long-time social activist who works as a representative
for a progressive Canadian publisher. She lives in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue
and is an artist. In June 2004 she traveled to Palestine with a group of
older women, who were all volunteers with the ISM's Freedom Summer 2004.
