With Presentations from:

Arthur Manuel: Arthur is a long time Secwepemc community organizer, who
has been heavily involved in the struggle against Sunpeaks Ski Resort. As
the former Chief of the Neskonlith Band, Arthur will offer facts and
arguments as to the illegality of the current expansion of Sunpeaks and
the continued exploration of natural resources throughout the majority of
British Colombia.

Aziz Choudry: Aziz is a Montreal based activist, researcher and writer on
neoliberal globalization, colonization, and struggles for social,
political and economic justice. Aziz will be addressing the impact of the
Canadian government and corporations on indigenous people throughout the
global south. Aziz's writing and research has been published widely, in
around 20 countries and translated into several languages.

Background Information:

This event will focus on building awareness and solidarity with the
struggles of indigenous people throughout Turtle Island (North America),
specifically focusing on the current resistance movement of the Secwepemc
people. Since October of 2000 the Secwepemc people have maintained the
Skwelkwek'welt Protection Centre in British Columbia, in an effort to
resist the expansion of Sunpeaks Ski Resort. Sunpeaks, owned by the
multi-national corporation Nippon Cable, continues to this day to
illegally occupy and expand upon Secwepemc land, with the complicity of
both the Provincial and Federal governments of Canada, clearly
illustrating the continued colonization of indigenous land by the Canadian
State.

This event will also attempt to provide an international context to the
indigenous resistance of the Secwepemc people, offering concrete examples
as to policies and practices of colonization waged by the Canadian state
and corporations in communities throughout the global south, and
illustrating Canada's integral role in the co-called "War on Terror", from
Afghanistan, to Iraq, to Palestine.
