Native youth from the Grassy Narrows community in Northwestern Ontario,
and their allies, have occupied the corporate headquarters of forestry
multinational Abitibi-Consolidated in Montreal. The protesters have been
inside the offices since approximately 11:30am, and are demanding a
face-to-face meeting with Abitibi CEO John Weaver. The protesters are
occupying in opposition to the clearcut logging of the traditional lands
of Grassy Narrows.
IF YOU ARE FROM THE MONTREAL-AREA: There is a solidarity presence outside
the offices of Abibiti (the Sunlife Building at 1155 Metcalfe, just north
of Rene-Levesque). As well, please contact local media about the
occupation.
The occupiers can be reached inside at the following number: 514-815-3792.
