An Invitation to Participate in International Symposium regarding
Independent Media and Journalism - Dalhousie University (Halifax
NS) July 1-4

This International Symposium aims to deal with one of the most pressing
matters facing journalists, media and culture workers, and society -
disinformation. It is convened at a time when the concentration of media
and power has reached unprecedented proportions nationally and
internationally.

Speakers knowledgeable in their fields are being invited to address
central issues. Journalists from Palestine, Cuba, Venezuela, Northern
Ireland and South Asia are being invited to give major presentations.
Individuals and organizations are also being invited to speak about the
issues they are facing in the struggle to develop new media and
journalism. Through presentations, panels and workshops we will exchange
experiences, share skills, explore the new media forms and technologies,
identify directions, and promote information sharing and collaboration on
a world scale.

Evening forums, independent films, cultural performances and socials will
be organized in such a way as to include the community.

Those who wish to give papers and presentations should contact the
Organizing Committee no later than April 15, 2004 so as to be included in
the program.

The Symposium will be conducted in English with French and Spanish
translation available.

Given the significance of this Symposium for all journalists, media and
cultural workers and educators, we encourage everyone to participate.
Together, let us take a bold step forward! Let us pose the problems which
we face so as to provide solutions!
