Pacific Peoples' Partnership is happy to announce the start of our
sixth year of sending Canadian youth overseas. This year, PPP will
provide opportunities for 8 participants to work with organizations in
the South Pacific starting in late August 2004. Please see the attached
document for complete job postings, or visit our website!

What is the INDIGENOUS PEOPLES ABROAD PROGRAMME?

For five years, Pacific Peoples' Partnership (PPP) has created
opportunities for young Canadians to learn from and contribute to the
community
development efforts of Pacific island peoples through the Indigenous
Peoples Abroad Programme (formerly the Youth International Internship
Programme).

The Indigenous Peoples Abroad Programme is open to young indigenous
people (First Nations, Métis and Inuit, status or non-status), or
those with personal knowledge of and experience with contemporary
indigenous issues and cultures, who are interested in gaining international
work experience
and in contributing to the community development aspirations of peoples of
the South Pacific. PPP aims to match participants' educational and
career-related interests with the needs of South Pacific organizations,
allowing for an exchange of skills and knowledge that will strengthen the
development and capacities of indigenous
communities in the South Pacific and Canada. In addition to the eligibility
requirements, participants are chosen based on their ability and enthusiasm
for contributing to their
host organization's work and activities, and their willingness to foster
greater links between indigenous communities internationally.

WHO IS PACIFIC PEOPLES' PARTNERSHIP?

Established in 1975, Pacific Peoples' Partnership is Canada's leading
organization promoting the aspirations of Pacific island peoples for
peace, cultural integrity, social justice, human dignity and environmental
sustainability. In particular, we foster dynamic and meaningful
relationships of common cause between peoples in the Pacific, and
First Nations and other communities in Canada. Since our inception,
PPP's mission and actions have been guided by the work and needs of our
counterparts
in these regions. We continue to work alongside civil society to
implement integrated educational and policy advocacy programmes which
target youth, women and government decision-makers.

We have a long history of delivering effective and innovative
programming both in the Pacific and in Canada - the Indigenous Peoples
Abroad Programme is another valuable link in this chain.
