refugee and immigrant organizations, with their allies, will take to the
streets of Montreal as part of a child-friendly march titled: "Solidarity

Justice and Dignity for Immigrants and Refugees

The Solidarity Across Borders demonstration is demanding: 1) The
regularization of all non-status persons; 2) An end to deportations; 3) An
end to the detention of immigrants and refugees; 4) The abolition of
security certificates.
As well, the demonstration supports the specific demands of the groups
that are organizing the Solidarity Across Borders demonstration, for
example: status for all families currently in sanctuary in Canada; no
extradition of Basque political prisoners to the Spanish state; a fair
trial for Adil Charkaoui and other victims of secretive security
certificates; the return of Mohamed Cherfi to Canada; a moratorium on
deportations to Algeria; the abolition of bills C-11 and C-36; and more.
Solidarity Across Borders members include: The Coalition Against the
Deportation of Palestinian Refugees; The Action Committee of Non-Status
Algerians; The Pakistani Action Committee Against Racial Profiling;
Colombianos Unidos; No One Is Illegal-Montreal, The Justice Coalition For
Adil Charkaoui, The Support Committee for Mohamed Cherfi, The Support
Committee for Basque Political Prisoners, The Kurdish Institute of
Montreal, The South Asian Women's Community Center, Solidarity for
Palestinian Human Rights, NEFAC, Block the Empire, McGill Students Against
War and Racism, Libertad, and many other groups and individuals.
HOW YOU CAN HELP? ... Endorse, Mobilize, Volunteer ...
There are several ways you can help support the Solidarity Across Borders
demonstration:
** ENDORSE the demonstration: If you agree with the aims of the Solidarity
Across Borders march, please endorse by contacting us at
nooneisillegal at tao.ca. Aside fron endorsing the demo, please actively
encourage members of your group or organization to attend the
demonstration.
** MOBILIZE for the demontration. There are less than two weeks before the
Solidarity Across Borders demonstration. WE NEED YOUR HELP to help
mobilize for the demonstration. There are several ways you can help
mobilize:
--> Flyering: Solidarity Across Borders is actively flyering for the April
24 demo at local metro stations. We have so far flyered at
Cote-des-Neiges, Jean-Talon, Berri-UQAM and Lionel Groulx metros. If you
can help flyer, please get in touch! You can download and copy the flyer

Please pass out flyers at local community centers, mosques, schools or
whereever else they might reach people interested in attending the
demonstration!
--> Postering: We are also actively postering for the demonstration. If
you can help, please get in touch. You can also download and copy the demo

We are organizing "postering parties" when groups of people get together
to poster in various neighborhoods in the city. The next two postering
parties are this TUESDAY, April 13 at 8pm and FRIDAY, April 16 at 8pm. For
the location, just get in touch.
--> Telephoning: One very effective way to mobilize for the demostration
is to phone your contacts. If you are part of an organization with contact
lists, please activate your networks!
--> E-mail: Please post and forward this message to your contact lists.
--> Writing Letters and Articles in Local/Community Media: In the upcoming
days, your letters or articles in local and community media can help reach
thousands of people. Please consider writing to local media about the
demo.
--> Contacting Community Radio Stations: Montreal has several local
community radio shows, in many languages, which are widely listened to.
Please encourage these shows to announce the details of the Soldiarity
Across Borders demonstration or to invite demo organizers as guests.
** VOLUNTEER: We will need many volunteers for the Solidarity Across
Borders march on April 24. If you can help, please get in touch, or attend
our next two upcoming public organizing meetings: Friday, April 16 and
Friday, April 23, both at 6:30pm at QPIRG-Concordia (1420, Sherbrooke
West, 4th floor, corner of Bishop, metro Guy-Concordia).
