[IPSMO] Stand Up for Land Defenders! Feb 19 10am!

[Indigenous Solidarity Ottawa]

On February 19th, when pro-pipeline and far-right forces plan to
converge in Ottawa, let us make our show of force and deny them their
platform! 

Let's gather in the streets of downtown "Ottawa" on unceded Algonquin
territory, and send the message that our future depends on the defense
of the land and the self-determination of the traditional Indigenous
peoples of Turtle Island!

>From Wet'suwet'en to Anishnaabe territory, and across the globe,
Indigenous communities are rising to defend their land against invasion
and the destruction brought by predatory resource extractors and their
government's armed forces. In the face of imminent climate catastrophe
and ongoing genocide by the forces of colonialism, these Land Defenders
are at the forefront of a struggle in which we all have a stake as
living beings on this planet. 

The attack on the Wet'suwet'en people last month represents an
unacceptable partnership between Canada's armed forces and the resource
extraction industry. In response, Indigenous communities and their
anti-colonial allies, across the country and around the world, have
responded with mass actions, disrupting business as usual and defending
the land & water. We must maintain and increase this pressure and act in
solidarity with the Wet'suwet'en people, their reclamation of their
unceded land, and fight for a healthy Mother Earth. 

Indigenous peoples still face colonial violence on Turtle Island!
Through the violence of capitalism and colonial tactics of division the
state has prompted pro-pipeline, far right, and outright racist tensions
to simmer and reach a boiling point. Unfortunately, the state has been
effective at pitting the working classes against one another, to the
point that a group has emerged that calls themselves "yellow vest
protesters". These individuals have co-opted a mostly left wing struggle
in France, and have organized an incredibly distasteful truck convoy
that will descend on Ottawa on the 19th of February. 

We have very little time left in the fight against climate change. It
has become our duty to stand up with those who fight on the frontlines,
and to oppose those who have chosen ignorance and violence against
people of colour instead of empathy. We must shut down this hateful and
outright dangerous group's organizing ability by any means necessary,
before it's too late.

convoy's arrival at Parliament Hill.

It is also important to note that the presence of these far-right
activists in Ottawa entails risks of violence. We will do everything in
our capacity to ensure this rally remains accessible and safe, but we
must keep in mind that the pro-pipeline group has dedicated months of
their time to a drive of hate, so it is imperative to be prepared for
anything.
