**Unsettling Canada Reading Group**

We want to remind you that the first session for discussing Arthur
Manuel's 'Unsettling Canada' will be this THURSDAY, JANUARY 18. It will
start at 6PM, and should wrap up around 8-8:30.

It will be held in ROOM 133 OF THE THOMPSON RESIDENCE (45 University
Private, University of Ottawa). If you’d like to attend future sessions
but can’t make it to the first, you’re welcome to do so.

The Facebook event page (for all four sessions) is here, which you can
go to for updates, articles, complementary readings and to ask
questions: https://www.facebook.com/events/666234773573049

The format of the Reading Group will involve small-group discussions of
chapters from the book. There should be a moderator for each group, who
will have some questions and prompts as a starting point for discussion.

Please note that these moderators will generally be from a settler
background - folks who have been involved in Indigenous solidarity work
themselves and with a long-term interest in unsettling themselves and
our society, but not Indigenous themselves. (We believe that there’s
important work to be done by settlers in educating their own community
and pointing peers towards Indigenous resources, and that settlers don’t
have an inherent right to always have an Indigenous person hold their
hand and educate them about the basics of colonialism.)

The schedule for the Reading Group will go like this:

JANUARY 18: FOREWORD-CHAPTER 4, INCLUSIVE (UP TO P. 51)
February 15: Chapter 5-9 (up to p. 125)
March 15: Chapter 10-13 (up to p.179)
April 19: Chapter 14-UNDRIP Appendix (up to 251)

So we hope that you'll be able to read the first 50 pages of Arthur
Manuel's _Unsettling Canada_ by this Thursday. (Of course by now you’ve
not only finished the book, but moved on to Manuel's next book, _The
Reconciliation Manifesto_, right?).

If you haven't started yet, just do you best to get as deep into those
first few chapters as you can. If you don't yet have a copy, Octopus
Books still has 3 copies. We have a limited number of hard copies and
e-books on hand too (free or by donation), which you can claim by
emailing indigsol at riseup.net.

There will be a scheduled break, and some light snacks available. Please
contact us (indigsol at riseup.net) with any questions, if you need help
paying for bus fare, or have any other accommodation needs.
