Hi folks,
Here are details about our upcoming reading group to discuss Arthur
Manuel's 'Unsettling Canada' (this Thursday), as well as two upcoming
direct actions on Algonquin territory: the first to oppose the Trudeau
government's propping up of Kinder Morgan's proposed tar sands pipeline,
and the second in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples in Labrador whose
ways of life are threatened by the Muskrat Falls mega-hydro dam.
----
1. 'Unsettling Canada' Reading Group - Thursday April 19, 6-8:30pm, Main
Library, Ottawa Room (3rd Floor)
2. Minister Carr: Climate + Indigenous rights > Kinder Morgan - April
23, 4:30-6pm, University of Ottawa
3. Parliament Hill Direct Action: Hear The Voices of Muskrat Falls - May
7, 11am-2pm, Parliament Hill

1. The last Unsettling Canada Reading Group Discussion session is this
THURSDAY (April 19), from 6-8:30 PM.
We'll be at the MAIN LIBRARY (120 Metcalfe St.), in the OTTAWA ROOM on
the 3rd Floor.
Event details, including suggested complementary readings, are here:
https://www.facebook.com/events/1372662109546298/
We'll be discussing Chapters 14 to the end (pp. 179-249, which includes
the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples), but
also generally reflecting on the book,
decolonization, and allyship.
In fact, WE ARE HOPING TO PUT TOGETHER A ZINE OF REFLECTIONS ON THE
BOOK, collecting people's reflections and personal response to the book
and its themes. To make that happen, we need written submissions by
people like you! How did you experience the book? What did you get out
of it? What was challenging? Did the book shift your perception of
reconciliation, decolonization, and allyship? What do these terms mean
to you?
Please send any reflections you have to indigsol at riseup.net.
Finally, at the end of our discussion group (at 8pm), there will be an
opportunity to join a mass ‘barnstorm’ conference call about stopping
Kinder Morgan (described here:
350org.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ue53HuKSRZOnldRKrksZMQ?utm).

2. Minister Carr: climate + Indigenous rights > Kinder Morgan
April 23 at 4:30-6pm, Tabaret Hall - University of Ottawa

Jim Carr, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, will be making a
keynote addresses at the event titled 'Public Confidence in Energy
Decision-Making: How is Canada Doing?"
So let's answer that question by gathering en mass and making a lot of
noise to send the message loud and clear that people across Canada have
no confidence in a government that insists on supporting a pipelines
like Kinder Morgan that violates Indigenous rights and puts our climate
at risk.

3. Parliament Hill Direct Action: Hear The Voices of Muskrat Falls - May
7, 11am-2pm, Parliament Hill

"Help us stop an act of cultural genocide and prevent a potentially
catastrophic dam break that could drown up to a thousand people
downstream from Muskrat Falls in Labrador (traditional, unceded lands of
the Innu and Inuit). This battle for our very lives can no longer be
waged alone. Most of us in Labrador cannot go to Ottawa. We need your
voices to help expose the major tragedy unfolding that there is still
time to stop. Ensure the federal government sees our faces, hears our
voices, and acts on our demands."
