Hello friends,
There are 2 main points for this email:
1. July 31st vigil, 8h30-9h30am in solidarity with #shutmuskratdown and
Elders who are jailed for protecting their land in Labrador
2. Campaign Justice for Sindy, her family is raising money to continue
their own searches
___________
1. Please join our morning vigil on Monday, July 31 from 8:30 to 9:30 am
at the site of federal ministry that has invested billions in destroying
traditional Indigenous ways of life in Labrador.
If you cannot attend please sign the petition that will be delivered
soon:

James Learning (aged 79), Marjorie Flowers and Eldred Davis (the middle
three in the picture above) are Indigenous Labrador Land and Water
Protectors who have spent years seeking to protect the lands, waters,
and people downstream from Muskrat Falls. They have been behind bars
since July 21 for their peaceful protection actions because the colonial
court system is acting as an agent for a project that will produce
methylmercury poisoning and the very real threat of catastrophic dam
break and mass drowning. They are the latest in a long line of
Indigenous political prisoners in Trudeau's Canada.
Their next court date is July 31.
We will vigil at a key foundation of Muskrat Falls: the federal Ministry
of Natural Resources at Booth and Carling Streets in Ottawa, which has
put over $6 billion in loan guarantees into this dangerous project that
will destroy traditional ways of life that date back thousands of years,
and also bankrupt Newfoundland and Labrador.
We will present a petition in support of all Labrador Land Protectors,
which has garnered thousands of signatures. We will speak with employees
at the department. And we will demand a meeting with Minister Jim Carr
to discuss this urgent situation and call on the federal government to
end its support for this disastrous project.

2. Campaign for Justice for Sindy Ruperthouse
Consider donating and sharing this fundraiser related to #mmiw #mmiw2gs

Sindy Ruperthouse is a 44-year-old Algonquian / Anishinaabekwe woman who
has been missing since April 23, 2014. To this day, Sindy's family
remains without any news updates. Her file, which is still open, has
been carelessly transferred between several delegations. Her family has
deplored the lack of action on the part of local and national police
forces on several occasions. Dealing with the complexities and delays of
the justice system and its authorities, it is her own family who took
matters into their own hands. They continue to look for Sindy and want
to do her justice. It is for this reason that Sindy's family is turning
to the individuals and communities for solidarity and support so that
they can be able to continue their research on the ground.
At the beginning of June 2016, several volunteers took part in
collective research around Val d'Or. Likewise, the donations collected
here will be used to initiate new efforts to find Sindy Ruperthouse.
Sindy and her family deserve justice and above all, support and answers.
It must be acknowledged that the disappearance of Sindy Ruperthouse
takes place the national context of the crisis of missing and murdered
Indigenous women. This crisis is marked by lack of accountability of the
authorities and government toward the affected families and their
repeated failure in attempting to address the root causes of this
colonial, sexist and racist nature. We believe that families should
direct how theses cases are handled, as they are the most affected by
them.
>From our hearts, Migwetch (Thank you) for generosity and your support.
