This information session in advance of next month's vote on the Proposed
Agreement-In-Principle is being hosted and run by the "Algonquins of
Ontario" organization, who are negotiating the land claim settlement (a
'termination table') that will extinguish Algonquin land title and rights
for Eastern Ontario, including Canada's capital, Ottawa, and therein the
sacred Chaudière Falls site (Akikodjiwan / Asinabka) on the Ottawa River
currently slated for Windmill Ltd's "Zibi" condo-commercial development.

Recognizing that inside this voting information session there will be no
real chance for a full expression of opposition to the Proposed
Agreement-In-Principle, or to the land claim process itself ...

... We are calling out for a direct action flash mob of drumming, singing
and the coming together of all nations and our allies in a good way - to
send a clear and concise message to reject this claim and these
negotiations, and for those who will partake in this process to JUST VOTE
NO!!!

ABOUT THE LAND CLAIM

The ‘Algonquins of Ontario’ (AOO) was created in 2006 as an organization to
carry out the land claims process; the AOO decision-making body consists of
the chief and six council members of the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First
Nation, along with one elected ‘Algonquin Negotiation Representative’ (ANR)
for each of the nine non-status Algonquin communities included in the
claim. This land claim process was initially started by Pikwakanagan in
1983, with the provincial and federal governments accepting the claim to
negotiate in 1991 and 1992 respectively.

The land under negotiation has never been ceded or surrendered. It consists
of approximately 36,000 square kilometres of eastern Ontario (although
unceded Algonquin territory does not stop at the Quebec border): the
southern boundary goes from North Bay in the northwest, southeast almost
all the way to Kingston, and then northeast to Hawkesbury, with Brockville
and Cornwall excluded. The northern boundary is the Ottawa River aka the
provincial border; the city of Ottawa is included in this territory, as is
almost all of Algonquin Park.

The key results of the current proposed settlement are for the Algonquin to
get 1.3% of the land in fee simple ownership, as well as a $300 million
one-time payment from which the negotiating debt (currently $20 million and
rising) will be paid.

The Quebec-headquartered Algonquin communities of Timiskaming, Wolf Lake,
Eagle Village, and Kitigan Zibi have all announced their assertion of
Aboriginal rights and title to their traditional territories including
parts of Ontario being negotiated away in this land claim, but have been
ignored by the "Algonquins of Ontario" as well as the provincial and
federal governments while the land claim process continues forward towards
extinguishment of title and rights.
