Attiwapiskat Journey to Ottawa
Four walkers have set off from Attiwapiskat First Nation in Northern
Ontario to walk all the way to Ottawa. They are Danny Metat, Brian Okimaw,
Paul Mattinas & Remi Nakogee. The walk began Jan 4, 2014.
"This spiritual journey, echoed by our ancestors is a calling for all of
First Nation Peoples to be awakened and take action on matters that
affects our existence- past, present and future. We cannot remain silent
and/or be silenced no more. This is our time. Change is upon us and we are
the change."

I Am A Witness
The First Nations Child & Family Caring Society and the Assembly of First
Nations have a human rights complaint against the Federal government being
heard at the Human Rights Tribunal, alleging that Canada’s failure to
provide equitable and culturally based child welfare services to First
Nations children on-reserve amounts to discrimination on the basis of race
and ethnic origin.
The next hearing dates, open to the public, are
Jan 9-10 and Jan 13-17 in Ottawa (160 Elgin St, 11th floor)
