Inuit Celebration of Life | World Suicide Prevention Day
11:30am-1pm, Tuesday Sept 10
Parliament Hill
Last year, more than 3,500 Canadians died by suicide. Of those people who
die by suicide, more than 90 per cent have a diagnosable mental illness.
In Inuit communities, suicide accounts for half of all deaths among young
people.
September 10 – World Suicide Prevention Day – is a day to come together in
your neighbourhood, your school, your workplace and your community to
celebrate life and show your commitment to saving lives.
In Ottawa, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, the National Inuit Youth Council, the
Mental Health Commission of Canada, Canadian Association for Suicide
Prevention, and partners will host an event on Parliament Hill to
encourage Canadians to join a worldwide movement to talk about suicide
prevention.
We hope you'll join us.

Benefit for the Tennessee Cree (Kevin Schofield)
6-9pm, Friday Sept 13
Victoria Island
Iconic singer/songwriter, wordsmith and proud aboriginal community member
Kevin Schofield (AKA: The Tennessee Cree) has recently suffered a major
brain aneurysm. While survival-wise at this point in time he is looking
good...the road to recovery will be a long and hard one indeed.
We are having this fundraiser to assist his family in coming down from his
native community of Moose Factory to care for him.
There will be award winning music and dance both traditional and
contemporary, Inuit games demonstrations and Throat-singing, drumming,
spoken word, a silent art auction and more to come.
Contact: davidfinkledrums at hotmail.com if you are willing to help.
We are recommending a 15 dollar donation at the door at this point and time.
