Hello everyone,

Below is a list of items needed at Chief Spence’s camp on Victoria Island,
Algonquin Territory. Chief Theresa Spence of the Attawapiskat First Nation,
has been on a hunger strike since December 11th to bring to the awareness
of Canadians and especially the Prime Minister and the Queens
representative, the Governor General, the violations and ignoring of
Treaties signed with First Nations which have led to the poverty of First

date, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has not responded to Chief Theresa

You can donate and delivery these items directly to Victoria Island, if you
live in Ottawa.

Or you can drop items off at Venus Envy (320 Lisgar St, 613-789-4646 and
they will deliver everything to the camp on Friday evening.

If you can't make it to Victoria Island:

We asked the helpers at the camp for a bank account where people can donate
gas money to. But there is none. So, we set up a temporary Paypal account
for people who would like to donate money. This is the link:
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=3LSAV8AFQST6W.
We will then issue cheque(s) to one of the responsible people at the camp.
If you don't have a credit card to make a paypal donation, you can make a
cheque payable to IPSMO with "to go to Chief Theresa Spence Camp" in the
memo line and send it to

If you are unable to make donations, please call the Prime Minister,
Stephen Harper, and the Governor General, David Johnston, asking firmly
that both of them must meet with Chief Theresa Spence on a nation-to-nation
level. And we must fullfil our Treaty obligations.

*"I recognized that my identity as a Canadian, as opposed to a mere
occupier or colonizer, was dependent on the status of those treaties." -
Tobold Rollo*

*“As Justice Linden of the Ipperwash Inquiry said, “we are all treaty
people.” When our governments unilaterally impose legislation on the First
Nations, they dishonour the Crown, they dishonour us, and they dishonour
our treaty relationship. We are responsible for ensuring that our
governments fulfill their commitments. If our governments do not respect
Indigenous and treaty rights, then the very legitimacy of the Canadian
state — and thus of all our citizenship rights — is in doubt. That’s what
Idle No More is about.” – Jeff Denis*

It shames all Canadians that the government has ignored or disdained the
Treaties and the rightful claims made by First Nations. Chief Spence
wishes to speak directly to the Prime Minister and Governor General, and
assert the right of her people to be treated equally and as Nations. She
wants a commitment from the Prime Minister and Governor General to act
sincerely, forthrightly, and immediately to move ahead with actions that
will honour the treaties and open the way for her people to live a life
without poverty, and which respects their cultures and languages and above
all, their connections to their land.

Please make donations or contact Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Governor
General David Johnston today!
