*"Our people are still suffering from this poison in the water, but most
receive no support from the government. All people diagnosed by the
Japanese experts must be fully compensated, and the government must respect
our decisions on our territory so that we can recover from the devastating
impacts of mercury pollution on our health, our culture, and our
livelihood." said Grassy Narrows Chief Simon Fobister.*

*“The government and industry take away our forests and give us back
disease and sickness and death,” said Judy Da Silva, a Grassy Narrows mother.
“If McGuinty stood in our shoes he would understand why we say ‘no’ to the

"Indian Givers" (2012) is a mixed-art documentary film, produced by the
Sarnia/Aamjiwnaang-based Kiijig Collective, made collaboratively by and for
Native and non-Native youth, shot and edited by Ian Alexander of Rocketship
Productions and SCITS student Sadie Mallon. This 60-minute film invites the
audience on a journey with the characters by stepping into their lives as
they reveal the survival of their spiritual identities in today's world.

One of the most recent issues concerning the First Nation of Aamjiwnaang is
the Enbridge pipeline - Line 9 that will transport Tar Sand oil from
northern Albert to Montreal. For more information and how you can work
with Aamjiwnaang, please check:

across the city and region and many other caring citizens and
organizations.

What to bring: Signs supporting equity, letters written to the PM and MPs,
your friends!

When we arrive on the Hill, we will be listening to school children read
letters they wrote to the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament. Our
event will finish once everyone has dropped off their letter in the Our
Dreams Matter Too mailbox. So come out and walk with us to give First
Nations children the same chance to grow up safely at home, get a good
education, be healthy, and proud of their cultures!!!

*“Celebrating Indigenous Arts in Algonquin Territory”*
*Ottawa, June 19-24, 2012*

The Asinabka Film and Media Arts Festival is celebrating its inaugural year
with an exciting lineup of films and art to be presented at various venues
across the National Capital Region from June 18-24, 2012 as part of the
celebrations for National Aboriginal Day. The Asinabka Festival aims to
highlight works that examine Indigenous issues and topics; to support media
artists and filmmakers; to promote Indigenous cultures and languages; to
educate people about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit issues in Canada, and
about Indigenous issues internationally; to provide a space where
Indigenous peoples can tell their own stories and see their own cultures
reflected back at them; and to entertain and be innovative. The festival is
drawing in renowned Indigenous artists and speakers, including Douglas
Cardinal, Leanne Simpson, Ariel Smith, and many more.

As the festival is quickly approaching, *the organizers are looking for
anyone interested in volunteering at the events*. Please contact them if
you are interested - asinabkafestival at gmail.com.
