Hello All,

Thank you so much for your support for the Algonquins of Barriere
Lake. This Thursday, we are having a potluck feast to celebrate Algonquin
resistance to assimilation with Barriere Lake's community spokesperson
Michel Thusky, accompanied by Three Little Birds, an awesome local musical
band. Hope to see you there! As well, there are 2 other events in town that
touch on the issues of Indigenous rights and perspectives on "resource
extraction".

Presented by David Welch, a long-time white supporter to the Ardoch
Algonquins.

He will be giving his talk and presentation about the history of the
Algonquin in Eastern Ontario and their struggle to prevent a uranium mine
from being built on their territory.

*Come* share a meal and help support the long-standing resistance of
*Mitchikanibikok
Inik <http://ipsmo.wordpress.com/mitchikanibikok-inik/>, the Algonquins of
Barriere Lake*, to forced assimilation <http://vimeo.com/23103527> and
extinction. This event is a fundraiser to help cover the community’s legal
costs incurred in a costly court battle they’ve been forced into by the
Canadian government.

*Michel Thusky*, a spokesperson from the Algonquin community of Barriere
Lake, will talk about *community identity* in the context of his people’s
struggle to *defend their land, their way of life, and their traditional
governance system* against attacks by the colonial governments of Quebec
and Canada.

Please bring either a dish to share, or a suggested minimum donation of $5
to 20 to ensure the costs of this event are covered. Some extra food will
be prepared to make sure there is enough to feed everyone.
