by the Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement Ottawa. It is part of our
ongoing efforts to support indigenous women on Turtle Island (a.k.a. North
America) and their struggle for liberation.

Keystone Pipeline Faces Indigenous Trans-Border Opposition

In mid-September this year, as sharp winds howled across the Great Plains,
indigenous leaders from either side of the U.S. –Canada border held an
"emergency meeting" in the basement of a South Dakota casino. They came
from all over - one flew in from Canada's frigid Great Bear Lake near the
Arctic Circle, a husband and wife drove east on Highway 18 from their
reservation, and several more drove west, on Interstate Highway 90.

Ontario to honour a promise made by the McGuinty government in 2008 and
create a joint panel to resolve longstanding issues regarding mining
exploration on their homelands.
“In 2008, just before we were jailed, Ontario promised us a joint panel to
resolve our outstanding issues with mining companies. We are still waiting
for them to honour that promise” said Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Chief

Ottawa Algonquin say land claim hijacked

Some Ottawa-area Algonquin members have accused a Toronto law firm of
hijacking a 20-year land claim negotiation that is close to a final
agreement.
The tract of land in question is in Golden Lake, Ont., just west of
Renfrew and about 150 km west of Ottawa.

Natives renew their fight as Ottawa weighs revised plan for B.C. gold mine

First Nations leaders say the are experiencing an unsettling sense of déja
vu as they resume the fight against a massive gold mining project in
British Columbia that was rejected by the federal government last year
after a scathing environmental assessment.
Taseko Mines Ltd. has returned with a revised plan to develop the
Prosperity mine that lies within traditional Tsilhqot’in territory in the
B.C. Interior.
