AND:
Hello! We're the Urban Aboriginal Alternative High School. Our mission is
to raise a minimum of $5000 to go on a school trip at the end of the year.
If we raise our goal, will be heading to Niagara Falls! We will be doing
numerous fundraisers in the upcoming months, and we would be very greatful
for your support! This is the first time that we have done fundraising
here at the school. The reason being is we want to have an end of the year
school trip like the other high schools here in Ottawa do. The important
thing about this whole fundraising is that it was thought up and run by
the students and not the staff. The students get great experience,
something that they will be able to put on their resume. We even have one
student who is doing their community hours through it.

A Peaceful Uprising for Indigenous Justice
Ottawa Courthouse Friday, November the 18th.
We will assemble there at 12:00 noon and walk up Elgin Street to
Parliament Hill.
The government of Canada is pushing a crime bill through parliament that
is expected to adversely affect Aboriginal Peoples. A Peaceful Uprising
for Indigenous Justice is a grassroots march for Indigenous Solidarity
Week to peacefully express our concern about the crime bill.
This new legislation will eliminate the provision in the criminal code
(Gladue) that recognizes the over-representation of Aboriginal people in
jails.
Gladue refers to the special consideration given to Aboriginal person‘s
background, and, circumstances when a judge is sentencing or setting bail
/ probation. With the new legislation, judges won't have to consider all
options other than jail.
We are already horribly over-represented in Canadian jails, and without
Gladue - it will only get worse.
A Peaceful Uprising for Indigenous Justice is your chance to visibly
disagree with the upcoming legislation.
Please bring a sign and wear red.
