2. Verses vs. Apartheid Poetry Slam
-------------------------------------------------

Verses vs. Apartheid: An evening of poetry and music in solidarity
with the Palestinian struggle for freedom.

Date: October 10, 2009
Location: The Rainbow Bistro
Address: 76 Murray Street, Ottawa (in the Byward Market)
Time: 7:00pm
Suggested Donation: $5 - $20. No one will be turned away.

Apartheid is the Afrikaans word for apart-ness
To divide. To control. To silence.
To build walls.

Poetry speaks of struggle and solidarity.
It unifies. Refuses to be silent.
Smashes walls.

All oppressive regimes have sought to silence the voice of the
oppressed, as this voice speaks of resistance, justice, and beauty
outside of the colonial grip. From Mahmoud Darwish to Suheir Hammad,
poetry has always been at the forefront of the Palestinian struggle
for freedom.

On Saturday, October 10 at 7:00pm, Students Against Israeli Apartheid
(SAIA) Carleton invites you to the Rainbow Bistro for an evening of
poetry and music about Palestine. Bringing together artists, both
local and from across the country to perform about Palestine, Verses
vs. Apartheid promises to be the first event of its kind in Ottawa.
