Pipe Dreams – A presentation on the Enbridge tar sands pipelines

Noon, Thursday May 7, 2009
Canadian Studies Lounge

How does a major pipeline project designed to carry oil from Alberta’s
Tar Sands to a tanker port on British Columbia’s west coast fit into a
much-needed low-carbon future? It doesn’t. Tar Sands are Canada’s
fastest growing source of global warming pollution. Come hear first
hand concerns of impacted First Nations and local communities, and how
they’re organizing around the proposed Enbridge pipeline.

Join us at noon on Thursday, May 7th at Carleton University. Room 1216 Canadian Studies. Refreshments provided.

Speakers:

Alphonse Gagnon, Wet’suwet’en First Nation

Kloum Khun (Alphonse Gagnon) is a hereditary chief of the Wet’suwet’en
house of Laksamshu - Medzeyex (Owl House). He is also a former chief
treaty negotiator with the Office of the Wet’suwet’en, an organization
representing the hereditary chiefs. The Wet’suwet’en Nation’s territory
comprises 22,000 square kilometres in northwest British Columbia.

Nikki Skuce, Energy Campaigner, Forest Ethics

Nikki Skuce lives in Smithers, BC on Wet’suwet’en territory with her
partner and daughter Lucia. She works on promoting climate solutions
and stopping dirty oil, including the Enbridge pipeline.
