[Indigsol] UMi Café!!!!- solidarity space needs support!

Umi has played a huge role in our fundraising activities this year, not to
mention the invaluable benefits of having a space to merge art, activism,
and community!

***PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY***********

Hey'all!I'm sure all of you are aware that due to several circumstances,
namely the bus strike and looming recession, business has been tough lately,
especially on local enterprises.  Unfortunately, this means that the
marvelously magikal UMI café Coop on Somerset is facing such hard
difficulties that it is threatened to shut down.
For the past while, all the workers of UMI have been working without pay so
that any income can go directly to staying afloat.

For those of you not familiar with Umi Café, it is a worker-run local coop
that opened just last summer. It serves fair-trade & organic coffee and
products and has become an important nest of warmth for the community to
come together and learn, celebrate, and support solidarity amongst
grassroots organizing. It features a fabulous open-mic art-jam every friday
night, and holds various fundraisers, film screenings, workshops, and other
events on a regular basis.   It is a place that encourages multicultural
diversity, where everyone is welcome, and can always expect to be greeted
with fond hugs, and are likely to find interesting art & conversation...

Right now it has an urgent goal to raise 5000$ before next week if it wishes
to keep their space.
Various fundraisers are being held all week, starting with a
Umi-appreciation Feast this Sunday.
Tickets are 5$, and if anyone feels they would like to contribute more it is
more than welcome.

If anyone is interested in finding out how to help UMI keep its community
blossoming, Sunday's feast will also be an important meeting for all Umi
members to discuss its future and design the most efficient plan of action
for what needs to be done.  So far people from all over have been
demonstrating an incredible support, offering to donate their time, skills,
and dollars to help the cause.

Whether you are able to attend or not on Sunday( I realize it is very
last-minute!) please take the time to pass this on to anyone you know...
Lets take the time and energy to come together to help keep one of Ottawa's
most vibrant homes alive!!!!
