Hi All
If we do not hold the Police accountable in our press release I have to beg out of this group.
cause we are promoting what exists wthout asking the right questions now, to prevent any more occureces now .
Racism is not more important than justice.

Thanks
Mary

Subject: [Indigsol] Mission, goals and meeting times

This is a follow-up from our last meeting
(I'm not sure if minutes are going to be sent out or not)

But I am sending out the draft mission / basis of unity that our working group (Angela, Free Will and myself) presented for the group.

Also I have a listing of what we thought might be the goals we have as a group, at least something of a starting point for further discussion.

Plus, notes about when we meet next:

- movie event Wed Sept 10, Jack Purcell, room book 7-9pm
** note: we could use a couple people to set up, as early as 6 or 6:15

- next meeting booked for Wed Sept 17, 6-8pm, Bethel Fieldhouse, which is located in St. Luke's Park, close to Elgin and Gladstone (behind the Second Cup) **note this meeting could change, we will confirm on the 10th

~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have any comments / input regarding the following draft mission / basis of unity, or the goals, please reply to me (not the list) and I will share with the working group of Angela, Free Will and myself, and we will come back with something that reflects the input we receive
MISSION / BASIS OF UNITY
The Indigenous Peoples Solidarity Movement - Ottawa (IPSMO) is a grassroots organization working towards the actualization of Indigenous rights; it is open to both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. As we build upon our relationships with local Aboriginal communities, we begin to decolonize oruselves, fostering accurate knowledge Indigenous groups within the non-Aboriginal community. We provide critical support to actions and campaigns for Indigenous sovereignty, self-determination, land rights, environmental protection, cultural revitalization, and the honouring of treaties and agreements.
(note: there was discussion about changing 'actualization of Indigenous rights' to 'justice for Indigenous peoples' at our meeting; also, we should include something about how we are primarily locally/regionally involved)
GOALS
From specific / short term to more general / long term:
- work with Walk 4 Justice:
-- awareness/fundraisers through movie at Jack Purcell, music at Umi Cafe
-- promote Sept 15 march and rally (also attend?)
- involvement in Outaouais Social Forum (Nov 7-9) (table?)
- continue involvement with Barriere Lake Solidarity (radio project?)
- create a flyer / info sheet outlining Indig problems, why we are a group
- create a resource list of key books, website, etc
- create a website
- education
-- public awareness through events, movies, workshops
-- create network of teachers, make resources available to them
-- go into schools, do presentations
-- invite Aboriginal people to present to us, to schools
-- promoting Aboriginal events
- fundraising
- promoting U.N. Declaration of Indig Rights (to politicians, to public)
- building long-term relations with Aboriginal communities, activists
