Hi everyone,

Attached is the rough draft for a radio station proposal we discussed in
Barriere Lake last weekend. People in Barriere Lake are excited about the
project, and group members from Montreal will likely be conducting training
sessions in the coming weeks as well as securing all the equipment.

I'm also forwarding notes from parts of our last meeting. If the federal
election goes ahead, as seems certain, we plan to try to make the
government's treatment of Barriere Lake a campaign issue in the riding of
Pontiac, to pressure Conservative MP Lawrence Cannon to make the necessary
phone calls to his Cabinet buddies. The immediate aim would be to force the
feds to appoint observers to witness a leadership reselection and respect
its outcome, but we will also try to build long-term attention and support
for Barriere Lake.

It would be great if Ottawa folks were interested in helping out with this.

Great to see that the Ottawa indigenous solidarity group has taken off!

best,
Martin

*election campaign:*

-expecting an election, will know for sure next week
Martin spoke with Mary Foster, asking for advice given her prior involvement
with Lubicon solidarity and their targeted campaign of Robert Nault in 2002,
Indian Affairs Minister at the time
Ideas:
-press releases and media work
-put an ad in newspaper
-flyering in Maniwaki with community members, in Buckingham, etc., outside
of Lawrence Cannon's constituency offices
-arrange briefing sessions with opposition candidates in riding
-find out if there are 'Meet Your Politician Nights" and crash them
-lobbying in Ottawa with opposition parties' Aboriginal critics
-contact Postal Workers Union, also targeting Cannon (Anet will contact
Francine)
-Outaouais activist mobilization
*
Radio Update:*

-Charles, the radio equipment finding champ, has secured a mixer, 2
microphones, and a computer in good condition and is installing radio
software on it
-still seeking a transmitter and a phone patch - will harrass NCRA some more
-to buy a transmitter is $300, may resort to this and either hold a
fundraiser or request funds from Naomi Klein event
-Charles and Court to raid CKUT for Aboriginal content (music, spoken word)
to upload on comp
-Charles will advise shortly on transmitter timeline
*-charles will hold a workshop (3-4 hours) for BLS on radio gear, get us all
up to speed - he's offered his abode for training along with some food and a
meeting (within the next two weeks)*
